Am I covered if I tow a trailer?
YES. We will extend the cover if you use any trailer which you own, have hired or have borrowed in connection with the vehicle insured.

Am I covered if my car is stolen?
If you have "Third Party Fire and Theft" or "Comprehensive" cover on your policy, you are covered for loss or damage to the Insured vehicle as a result or theft or attempted theft.

Am I covered to tow a caravan?
Under trailer cover you are covered for your Third Party liability arising out of the towing of a trailer or Caravan.
You must ensure that your licence covers you tow and the weight of the trailer or caravan is within the maximum specified limit for your car.

Do I lose my NCB if I change car insurance?
If you change car Insurance you will retain the No Claims Bonus that you have earned provided you have not had any claims.
If you do not yet have a full (5+ years) No claims Bonus and you change your car insurance provider mid year you will only retain the full years earned.

Do I need insurance to learn to drive?
If you are learning to drive in an approved Driving Instructors vehicle then you will not need insurance cover.
If you are learning to drive in your own or someone else's vehicle then you will need the appropriate car insurance cover, either as a named driver or as a main policy holder, to be able to drive it.

Do I need to display my insurance disc?
YES. You are legally required under Irish Road Traffic Laws to display a valid, original car insurance disc on your vehicle windscreen.
The disc must be displayed on your vehicles front windscreen where it is clearly visable and does not obstruct the drivers view. It's recommended that the best location to display it be on the passenger side top or bottom corner. Failure to display a valid insurance disc can result in fines.

Do modifications like alloys and towbars affect my cover?
If you already have modifications or are considering modifications (including alloys and towbars) to your vehicle, please contact us.
All vehicle modifications should be declared when getting motor insurance to ensure you are covered. Not declaring modifications to your vehicle could impact any claims you make.
Does home insurance cover short-term lettings like Airbnb?
NO. Short term lettings, for example Airbnb, booking.com etc., are not covered.

Does my policy cover me for breakdowns at home as well as on the road?
YES. If you have Breakdown Assistance included in your policy you are also covered at your home address, as listed on your policy.

Does not having a valid NCT invalidate my insurance?
NO. An invalid NCT certificate does not invalidate your existing car insurance policy. However, an invalid NCT certificate may impact any claims you make. Therefore, it's important to ensure your vehicle has an up-to-date valid NCT certificate.
I am returning home after living abroad. Can I get car insurance in Ireland?
Returning Home after living abroad? You may still be entitled to a No Claims Discount.
If you held car insurance in Ireland prior to moving abroad and it is within the last 24 months, you may still be entitled to use this earned No Claims Discount on your new policy.
If you were living in UK, EU, USA, Canada, Australia or New Zealand and held a policy in your own name whilst living there, you may be entitled to use the No Claims Discount earned on that policy on your new policy provided there have been no claims, it was earned in the past 24 months and you can provide proof from your previous Insurer.

I drive an electric or hybrid vehicle. Should my car insurance policy be different?
No matter the type of vehicle you drive, you should have car insurance. Our Car Insurance is also designed to cater for the specific needs of a Hybrid or Electric vehicle.
Our Breakdown assistance which can be selected as an optional add on allows for towing to the nearest charging point in the event that you run out of electrical charge or will take you to the nearest garage for repair in the event of breakdown due mechanical failure. We also provide up to €500 for loss or damage to the electric car charging cable.

I have penalty points. Will this impact my insurance?
Yes, penalty points can impact your motor insurance. If you don't notify us or omit to include information such as penalty points this could impact your cover and any future claims.
It is important that you notify us:
1. when taking out a new policy by answering all the questions correctly and truthfully, including penalty points, claims etc.
2. if there are any changes to your existing car insurance policy, including incurred penalty points at any stage during the term of your policy
Is car insurance mandatory in Ireland?
YES. Car insurance is mandatory in Ireland for all drivers. You cannot legally drive in Ireland without valid insurance. Under Irish Law you must have at least Third Party Only cover to drive any propelled vehicle in a public place. This requirement comes from the Road Traffic Act 1961, which states that drivers must have valid insurance to cover their liability to others.
You must also display your valid car insurance disc on the insured vehicle clearly at all times.
Is my car insured when driving abroad?
Your policy provides the minimum cover you need by law to use the vehicle in:
1. any country which is a member of the European Union; and
2. any other country which has made arrangements to meet the minimum insurance requirements of the Commission of the European Union.
We will automatically extend this to provide your full policy cover (as shown in your schedule of insurance) for these countries for up to 93 days in any one period of insurance.

What is step-back versus protected NCB and is it worth it?
Car insurance jargon can be confusing, but we're here to help!
- Step Back Protection: means that if you make a claim you won't lose your entire No Claims Bonus, only part of it
- Full No Claims Bonus Protection: means you will keep your full No Claims Bonus even if you make one claim during the period of insurance cover.

What is the minimum age to be eligible to get car insurance in Ireland?
The minimum age in Ireland and to purchase a RedClick Car Insurance policy is 17 years old. This includes young drivers on a learner permit being insured in their own name or being added as a named driver. Get a quick car insurance quote online.
What types of car insurance cover are available in Ireland?
In Ireland there are 3 types of car insurance cover options available:
1. Comprehensive: This is the highest level of car insurance cover available that protects your car + other persons and their car/property in the event of an accident.
2. Third Party Fire & Theft (TPF&T): This is a mid-level type of cover that protects other people and their car/property and gives protection for your car in fire and theft situations only.
3. Third Party Only: this is the minimum level of cover available that only covers damage to someone else's car & property or injuries to other people.
