These frequently asked questions have been prepared to provide more information about the upcoming change to our business, expected to take place on or around 30 December 2026. If you have further questions, please contact us.

What is the proposed change to the business?

Generali España de Seguros y Reaseguros, S.A. Ireland Branch, trading as RedClick, recently agreed to sell its Irish property and motor insurance business to Zurich Insurance Europe AG, Ireland Branch (Zurich Ireland), subject to regulatory approval.

This is referred to in these FAQs as the transfer

These FAQs are designed to answer some of the questions you may have about the transfer.

When will the transfer happen?

Subject to the Spanish Regulator giving its approval, the transfer of the business is expected to take effect on or around 30 December 2026. This date is referred to in these FAQs as the transfer date.

Why are you writing to me?

We are writing to all customers who hold one or more insurance policies that will be included in the transfer. Your policy(ies) are referred to in these FAQs as the policy. Please read these FAQs carefully, to ensure you understand the transfer and what is happening. We recommend that you share them with anyone else connected to your policy.

Who is Zurich Ireland?

Zurich Ireland is part of the Zurich Insurance Group. Zurich has supported customers in Ireland for more than 75 years and has over 1,000 employees across its Irish operations.

Zurich Ireland is a registered branch of Zurich Insurance Europe AG (ZIE AG). ZIE AG is a German stock corporation incorporated in Germany and is authorised and regulated by the German Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (Bundesanstalt für Finanzdienstleistungsaufsicht) (the German Regulator). Zurich Ireland is also regulated by the CBI for consumer protection rules.

What do I need to do?

You do not have to take any action as a result of the transfer or any communication you received in relation to the transfer. Your policy will automatically transfer to Zurich Ireland on the transfer date. There will be no change to your policy arising from the transfer. Your policy cover including policy limits and excess(es), terms and conditions, rights and obligations, policy number and claim number (where relevant) will stay the same.

Your proof of home insurance and/or car insurance disc will continue to be valid and will not need to be replaced. You can continue to use your current documents.

There will be no change to your contacts for any queries, including in relation to any claim or complaint.  There will be no changes to the way your policy is administered, or to how complaints or claims are handled. The service you receive will not be affected.  Your information (including your personal data) will automatically transfer to Zurich Ireland on the transfer date.

Your direct debit or continuous payment authority will not change, and you do not need to contact your bank. However, in the future (following completion of the transfer) Zurich Ireland will appear as the payee on your bank statement.

If you have a claim that is unresolved on the transfer date, don’t worry. Your claim will be transferred from RedClick to Zurich Ireland. This means that your claim will be with Zurich Ireland, but it won’t change the status or merits of your claim. Please continue to contact RedClick for any queries in relation to your claim.

How will the transfer affect my policy?

If the Spanish Regulator approves the transfer, on and from the transfer date, your policy will be insured with Zurich Ireland, and you will become a customer of Zurich Ireland rather than RedClick.

You do not have to take any action. Your policy will automatically transfer to Zurich Ireland on the transfer date.  As a result of the transfer, there will be no change to your policy. Your policy cover including policy limits and excess(es), terms and conditions, rights and obligations, policy number and claim number (where relevant) will stay the same.

What about other policies I hold with RedClick?

The transfer will apply to all Irish property and motor insurance policies and claims insured by RedClick in the Republic of Ireland.  No other policies or policyholders of Generali Spain will transfer to Zurich Ireland as a result of the transfer. There is a separate transfer process in respect of business written in the UK by Generali Spain, which you may receive separate communications from us on.

Will my personal information be transferred?

Yes. Your information, including your personal data, will automatically transfer to Zurich Ireland on the transfer date.

Why is my personal information being transferred?

Zurich Ireland, as an insurer, will need your data to administer policies and claims. If the transfer is approved, Zurich Ireland, as the insurer, will become the controller of personal data relating to the policies and claims being transferred from RedClick to Zurich Ireland and will be responsible for the personal data it holds and uses in connection with these policies and claims. 

How will the transfer affect policyholders of Zurich Ireland?

There will be no changes to the terms of the policies of Zurich Ireland, nor will the arrangements for such policies change as a result of the transfer.

Do I need to do anything?

No. You do not need to take any action. Your policy will automatically transfer to Zurich Ireland on the transfer date. 

Will my policy cover change?

There will be no change to your policy as a result of the transfer. Your policy cover including policy limits and excess(es), terms and conditions, rights and obligations, policy number and claim number (where relevant) will stay the same.

Will my policy terms and conditions change?

No. There will be no change to your policy terms and conditions as a result of the transfer, and you will not receive updated policy terms and conditions as a result of the transfer.

Will the rights and obligations that I have under my policy change?

No. There will be no change to the rights and obligations that you have under your policy as a result of the transfer.

Will my policy number change?

No. There will be no change to your policy number as a result of the transfer.

Will my claim number change?

No. There will be no change to your claim number as a result of the transfer.

Will I receive new proof of home insurance?

No. Replacement documentation is not required and will not be provided. Your existing proof of insurance remains valid until the policy expires or is cancelled.

To the extent that your mortgage provider is noted on your home policy, this will continue to be the case, and you will not need to notify your mortgage provider of any change.

Will I receive a new motor insurance disc?

No, a replacement motor insurance disc is not required and will not be provided. Your current motor insurance disc remains valid until the policy expires or is cancelled.

Will my contact details for queries, claims or complaints change?

No. There will be no change to your contacts for queries, claims, or complaints.  Please continue to use your usual communication channels.

Should I contact Zurich directly to service and manage my RedClick policy?

Please continue to use your current RedClick contact details to service and manage your policy and for any questions you may have. You can contact us here.

Will the service I receive change?

No. The service you receive will not be affected by the transfer.  There will be no changes to the way your policy is administered, or the way in which complaints or claims are handled. 

Will I be able to make changes to my policy?

Yes. The transfer does not change your rights and obligations under your policy. There will also be no change to your contacts if you wish to make changes to your policy. 

Will my multi-policy discount still apply?

Yes. If you have multiple policies with RedClick and benefit from a multi-policy discount, this will continue to apply after the transfer. 

What happens if I have an open claim?

If your claim is still open on the transfer date, it will transfer to Zurich Ireland.  This means your claim will be with Zurich Ireland, but it won’t change the status or merits of your claim or the contact details for any queries.  

You do not have to take any action as a result of the transfer. There will be no change to your policy cover including limits and excess(es), terms and conditions, rights and obligations, policy number and claim number arising from the transfer. 

The service you receive will not be affected.

Will my policy end because of the transfer?

No. Your policy will automatically transfer to Zurich Ireland on the transfer date and will continue until the policy expires or is cancelled. 

Does the transfer affect all my RedClick policies?

The transfer will apply to all Irish property and motor insurance policies and claims insured by RedClick in the Republic of Ireland.  The transfer only involves Irish property and motor insurance policies written by RedClick in the Republic of Ireland. No other policies or policyholders of RedClick will transfer to Zurich Ireland as a result of the transfer. There is a separate transfer process in respect of business written in the UK by Generali Spain, which you may receive separate communications from us on. 

What are my rights with respect to the transfer?

You are entitled to cancel your policy because of the transfer.  If you do this, you are entitled to receive a refund of any remaining premium calculated on a pro-rata basis. 

This right can be exercised at any time until one month after the transfer date.

Can I cancel my policy because of this transfer?

Yes. You have the right to cancel your policy because of the transfer. If you exercise that cancellation right, you will receive a refund of any unused premium on a pro-rata basis. 

This right can be exercised at any time until one month after the transfer date.

What happens to my claim or complaint if I cancel?

There will be no change to your claim or complaint if you cancel your policy. If you have a claim or complaint that is unresolved on the transfer date, it will automatically transfer from RedClick to Zurich Ireland. This means your claim or complaint will be with Zurich Ireland, but it will not change the status or merits of your claim or complaint. 

You do not have to take any action in relation to your claim or complaint if you cancel your policy. 

There will be no change to your contacts for any queries, including in relation to your claim or complaint. The service you receive will not be affected.

What happens to my Direct Debit or continuous payment authority?

Your Direct Debit or continuous payment authority will not change, and you do not need to contact your bank. In the future, following completion of the transfer, Zurich Ireland will appear as the payee on your bank statement.

Do I need to contact my bank about my Direct Debit?

No. You do not need to contact your bank. Your Direct Debit or payment authority will continue as normal. 

Will I see anything different on my bank statement?

Yes. In the future, following completion of the transfer, Zurich Ireland will appear as the payee on your bank statement. 

Does this transfer affect my claim?

If your claim is still open on the transfer date, it will automatically transfer to Zurich Ireland.  This means your claim will be with Zurich Ireland, but it won’t change the status or merits of your claim, or the contact details for any queries. 

You do not have to take any action as a result of the transfer or any communication you received in relation to the transfer. There will be no change to your policy cover including policy limits and excess(es), terms and conditions, rights and obligations and claim number arising from the transfer.

What happens to my claim after the transfer?

If your claim is still open on the transfer date, it will automatically transfer to Zurich Ireland.  This means your claim will be with Zurich Ireland, but it won’t change the status or merits of your claim, or the contact details for any queries.  As a result of the transfer, there will be no change to your policy cover including policy limits and excess(es), terms and conditions, rights and obligations and claim number.

There will be no change to your contacts for any queries, including in relation to your claim. The service you receive will not be affected.  You should continue using the existing contact details you have been advised by your Claims Handler.

Will I need to submit my claim again?

No. Your existing claim will transfer automatically to Zurich Ireland if it is still open on the transfer date.

Will I need to send documents again?

No. Any claim information you have already submitted will transfer automatically. 

My policy has ended. Does the transfer affect me?

Yes. Even after a policy ends, an insurer may continue to have obligations under it, including the obligation to pay any valid claim arising from events that occurred during the period of cover. Those obligations can remain in place for many years. 

While the period of cover on your policy has ended, if you make a claim relating to a time when your policy was active, and it remains open on the transfer date, your claim will automatically transfer to Zurich Ireland on the transfer date.

You do not need to take any action as a result of the transfer or any communication you have received in relation to the transfer.

What happens if I make a new claim before the transfer date?

If you make a new claim, relating to events that occurred during the period of cover and that claim remains open on the transfer date, it will automatically transfer to Zurich Ireland on the transfer date. This means your claim will be with Zurich Ireland, but it won’t change the status or merits of your claim.  You do not have to take any action as a result of the transfer or any communication you have received in relation to the transfer. There will be no change to your policy cover including policy limits and excess(es), terms and conditions, rights and obligations and policy number arising from the transfer.

There will be no change to your contacts for any queries, including in relation to your claim. The service you receive will not be affected.

What happens if I need to make a claim in the future for a past event?

Even after a policy ends, the insurer may continue to have obligations under it, including the obligation to pay any valid claim arising from events that occurred during the period of cover. 

If you make a new claim after the transfer date, relating to events that occurred during the period of cover, your claim will be with Zurich Ireland, but it won’t change the status or merits of your claim.  There will be no change to your policy cover including policy limits and excess(es), terms and conditions, rights and obligations and policy number arising from the transfer.

There will be no change to your contacts for any queries, including in relation to any future claim. The service you receive will not be affected.

Who will handle any future claim after the transfer?

Zurich Ireland will be responsible for handling any open claims that transfer to it from RedClick on the transfer date.

Will my policy details change?

No. There will be no change to your policy as a result of the transfer, including your policy cover, terms and conditions, rights and obligations, and policy number.

What if I never need to make a claim?

You do not need to do anything. Our communications are simply to inform people about the transfer in case they need to contact the insurer in the future.

How will the transfer take place?

The transfer will be carried out by way of a Spanish portfolio transfer in accordance with Article 100 of Spanish Royal Decree 1060/2015. Generali Spain is a Spanish company, the transfer requires authorisation by the Spanish Ministry of Economy, Trade and Business.

The transfer will become effective upon execution of a public deed before a Spanish notary formalising the transfer. This will take place on the transfer date. 

On the transfer date your policy (and any outstanding claim) will automatically transfer to Zurich Ireland.

What has already happened?

As part of the Spanish portfolio transfer process, the Spanish Regulator is engaging with the CBI and the German Regulator. 

What if the expected transfer date changes?

If the transfer date is expected to change, an update will be provided on this FAQ webpage. 

How will I know the transfer has become effective?

If the Spanish Regulator approves the transfer, it will become effective upon the transfer being formally notarised in Spain.  This will take place on the transfer date. 

We will publish a notification, here, at the top of this FAQ webpage, once the transfer has become effective. 

Zurich Ireland also plans to communicate with customers directly shortly after the transfer completes.

How do I know my rights and interests are protected during the transfer?

As Generali Spain is a Spanish company, the transfer of your policy requires the authorisation of the Spanish Ministry of Economy, Trade and Business.  As part of that process, the Spanish Regulator is engaging with the CBI and the Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (Bundesanstalt für Finanzdienstleistungsaufsicht) (the “German Regulator”). We are also engaging with you to keep you informed and to give you the opportunity to ask any questions or raise any concerns you may have.

What happens if the transfer is not approved?

If the Spanish Regulator does not approve the transfer, it will not become effective, your policy will not transfer to Zurich Ireland and will remain with RedClick.
